The Haibike Trekking S 10 is a full-equipment speed pedelec built for fast, all-weather commuting and longer touring. Its Bosch Performance Line Speed (GEN4) mid-motor delivers 85Nm and assists up to 45 km/h (28 mph), fed by a 625Wh Bosch PowerTube that can be extended to 1,125Wh with a Range Extender for serious distance. Shifting is handled by an 11-speed Shimano Deore XT/SLX drivetrain, while Tektro HD-E715 hydraulic discs (180/160mm) and grippy Schwalbe Super Moto-X 27.5in tyres keep higher speeds in check. An SR Suntour suspension fork, Bosch Kiox display, integrated Spanninga lighting, SKS rack and mudguards round out a genuinely ready-to-ride package. Available in High and Low-step aluminium frames (M/L/XL).

Important (UK): at 45 km/h this is a speed pedelec, not a 250W/15.5mph EAPC. It is not road-legal as an ordinary pedal cycle in the UK and requires registration, insurance, a helmet and licence to use on the road.

  • Bosch Performance Speed GEN4 motor, 85Nm, 45 km/h assist
  • 625Wh battery, expandable to 1,125Wh
  • 11-speed Shimano XT/SLX gearing
  • Tektro hydraulic disc brakes with oversized rotors
  • Full lights, rack and mudguards fitted as standard

A Closer Look at the Haibike Trekking S 45

The Bosch Performance Line Speed (GEN4) motor is a different tier to a standard 25km/h e-bike drive unit: the same 85Nm of torque, but tuned and geared to keep assisting all the way to 45km/h (28mph) — nearly double the cut-off of a normal EAPC. The 625Wh Bosch PowerTube, expandable to 1,125Wh with a Range Extender, is sized for the distances a speed pedelec is built to cover, and the Tektro HD-E715 brakes with oversized 180/160mm rotors are specified to bring that extra speed back down safely and repeatedly.

The rest of the build reflects the same “ready to commute” thinking: an 11-speed Shimano Deore XT/SLX drivetrain for a wide gear range at speed, Schwalbe Super Moto-X tyres for grip and puncture resistance, and a full complement of Spanninga lighting, an SKS rack and mudguards fitted as standard rather than sold as accessories.

Who Rides the Trekking S 45, and Where

This is a bike for riders who want to cover real distance quickly — fast commutes that would otherwise need a car, or long-distance touring where a standard 15.5mph EAPC feels limiting. Because it assists to 45km/h, it does not qualify as a standard UK road-legal EAPC: it is legally a speed pedelec (moped-class), and UK law requires registration, insurance, an approved helmet and a licence to ride it on the road. Factor that into your buying decision, not just the price.

Setup & Care

The Bosch Kiox display gives full ride data and battery diagnostics — get familiar with it before your first long ride, especially if you’re using the Range Extender battery. Tektro’s oversized rotors need the same bedding-in period as any new hydraulic brake, and given the higher operating speed, check tyre pressures and wear more frequently than you would on a standard-speed e-bike. The SR Suntour fork benefits from an annual lower-leg service to keep the lockout function crisp.

Haibike Trekking S 45: Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Trekking S 45 road legal in the UK?

Not as a standard pedal cycle. At 45km/h assist it is legally a speed pedelec, and UK law requires registration, insurance, an approved helmet and a licence to use it on the road — see our UK Electric Bike Laws guide for the full requirements.

Why would I choose a speed pedelec over a standard e-bike?

If your commute or regular ride is long enough that 15.5mph assist feels limiting, the extra 13mph of assisted speed can meaningfully cut journey time — at the cost of the registration and insurance a standard EAPC doesn’t need.

How do I pay, and is finance available?

We currently accept payment by bank transfer. Card payments are coming soon — finance is planned but not yet live; see our Finance page.

What’s your returns policy?

14-day hassle-free returns on unused bikes in original packaging; faulty bikes receive a free collection. Full terms on our Delivery & Returns page.

What’s the maximum range with the Range Extender fitted?

The standard 625Wh PowerTube can be paired with a Range Extender for up to 1,125Wh total capacity — real-world range depends on assist level, speed and terrain.
